Polish authorities maintained closed Lublin airport and activated fighters on the East border with Ukraine on Saturday (13) after detecting Russian drones in their airspace.

The Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command reported that the planes – both Poles and NATO allies – were mobilized in order to “ensure the safety of airspace.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has classified the incursion of drones as “unacceptable,” saying it is still unclear whether there was a deliberate intention of Russia to reach Poland. He said that if an intentional attack is proven, this could represent a significant leap of climbing in the conflict.

The measure comes three days after other Russian drone interceptions by Poland, supported by allied NATO countries, reinforcing military surveillance and coordination in the border region.
