Deaths raise the number of Palestinian journalists killed in the conflict from October 7, 2023 to at least 192
Four journalists were among the at least 20 people killed by Israeli attacks at Al-Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, health officials said.
Monday’s attacks killed Hussam Al-Masri, who worked for Reuters, Mariam Abu Dagga, who worked for the Associated Press, Al Jazeera Mohammed Salam journalist, and NBC’s Moaz Abu Taha. Another Reuters journalist, Hamm Khaled, was also injured in the attack.
A video from the Al-Ghad TV news agency showed Civil Defense employees wearing vibrant orange vests and journalists being hit by a bomb while trying to rescue Al-Mamasri’s body, killed in an earlier attack on the hospital’s fourth floor. Moments before their deaths, they raised their hands to protect themselves, but were killed by the explosion.

The second bomb reached the same place in the fourth floor as the first, after the redemption teams arrived, the Gaza Ministry of Health said. A later video showed a pile of bodies where journalists and civil defense officials were at the time of the attack.
Associated Press said in a statement that it was shocked and sad to learn of Dagga’s death, as well as the deaths of other journalists killed with her.
“We are doing everything we can to keep our journalists in Gaza Seguros as they continue to provide crucial reports of eye witnesses in difficult and dangerous conditions,” the agency said.
Reuters stated in a statement that it was devastated by the news of Al-Masri’s death and Khaled’s wound.
“We are looking for more information urgently and we ask the authorities of Gaza and Israel to help us get urgent medical care for hatem,” a spokesman said.

At least 192 Palestinian journalists have been killed since October 7, 2023, according to the Journalist Protection Committee (CPJ), a number of the dead globally in the previous three years. The CPJ said in August that the murder of journalists by Israel in Gaza was “a deliberate and systematic attempt to cover up Israel’s actions.”
An Israeli Army spokesman stated that the Chief of Staff ordered a preliminary investigation into the attack and that Israel “expressed grief for the injuries suffered by unreserved staff.” Israel did not attack journalists, he said.
Israeli inquiries on the misconduct of their armed forces rarely guarantee liability. A report published this month shows that 88% of investigations into war crime allegations in Gaza have been closed or left unresolved. The Israeli investigation into the murder of the Palestinian-American journalist of Al Jazeera Shireen Abu Akleh by an Israeli shooter in 2022 was never completed.

Dagga, 33, worked as a freelancer for AP since the beginning of the Gaza War, as well as other media outlets. She reported the struggle of Nasser Hospital doctors to save children without pre -health problems who were hungry.
Al Jazeera confirmed that their Salam was among the dead in the attack on the Nasser Hospital. Reuters reported that Al-Masri, a hired cameraman, was also killed. Khaled, a photographer who was also hired by Reuters, was injured, the news agency said.
Israel prevented the international media from covering the 22 -month conflict, an unprecedented ban on the history of war coverage. Palestinian journalists in Gaza who work for international vehicles fulfill their functions facing hunger and risk of death.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that Monday’s attacks on Nasser Hospital interrupted surgeries at the operating room and condemned the attack, which claimed to be part of a “systematic destruction of the health system”. The Nasser Hospital is the only public hospital in operation in southern Gaza.
Health officials also reported shots that killed people seeking help in the center of Gaza and air attacks in the city of Gaza.

At least six people died and 15 were injured as they were trying to reach a place of humanitarian aid distribution in downtown Gaza, run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a private and US -backed company. Israeli soldiers’ shootings near GHF locations are an almost daily occurrence, although the Israeli army and GHF deny people target people seeking help.
An attack on a residential neighborhood in the city of Gaza killed at least three people, including one child. Israel is preparing for an invasion of the city in the coming days, which, according to the government, will occupy and assume control.
Humanitarian aid groups said the operation would lead to displacement and a humanitarian disaster in Gaza, which is already devastated by hunger.
At least 62,686 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the Gaza War 22 months ago. Israel launched his attack following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas -led militants, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 250 hostages.
