The pattern is traced. First, a climatic emergency that impacts fully on the lives of thousands of citizens. Then, a response from the competent public administrations that falls short or that does not arrive on time. And, from there, the noise that wraps everything and adds more chaos in the middle of the bewilderment: crossed reproaches between the great parties, elusion of responsibilities on their own competences such as wear tactics of the adversary and, above all, bulos. Dozens of bulos that spread without control through social networks and that sneak into political speeches, in the media and, therefore, in the public discussion.
One of those bulles has run like gunpowder this week in the middle of the biggest crisis Spain has lived in thirty years because of the fire. In a map of the Iberian Peninsula, the areas affected by fires such as very valuable rare earths for the manufacture of electronic devices are defined. A territory in which it ensures that China would be interested after the government firm a great contract with the Huawei brand. MORALEJA CONPIRANOICA: Pedro Sánchez has allowed to burn Media Spain for his interests with the Chinese.
In the networks and even in some communication pseudomedes they circulate patrañas equally crazy. With the country burning on the four sides, other false statements have been viralized, such as the “2030 Agenda prohibits cleaning the mountains”, that there is “an organized criminal plot” that causes fires and that, of course, climate change is an invention. An identical situation that was lived after the Dana de Valéncia in which 224 people lost their lives. In that case, one of the paradigmatic bulos was that of the famous Parking of Bonaire, where agitators and alleged journalists came to ensure that hundreds of corpses were piled up. When the police and emergency services denied them, the response of the fake news propagadores was to question the State Security Forces themselves.
The result is a generalized confusion often fed by the competent public administrations themselves that does nothing but feed citizen disaffection towards institutions. A perfect culture broth for the thesis of antipolytic, cornerstone of the speech of the extreme right. “It was seen in Covid, it was seen in the Dana and is seen now. There are groups with a clear political intention that take advantage of these circumstances of crisis to sow the fear and discredit to the institutions,” explains Alberto LĂłpez-CarriĂłn, a doctor in communication and professor at the International University of Valencia.
Together with the Professor of the Polytechnic of Valencia Germán Llorca-Abad, LĂłpez CarriĂłn has published the first scientific study on misinformation during the crisis produced by the Dana. And in that work published in the magazine ‘Mediterranean communication’ develop an exhaustive analysis of how this behavior pattern responds, in fact, to a perfectly designed strategy.
“Everything is premeditated and thought. In the article we refer to the concept of ‘diagonalism’ to explain that some political behaviors most linked so far to the left or the extreme left, such as the anti -net or anti -indentation discourse, are now covered by the extreme right. systemic to which they present themselves as the only solution.
What attracts the attention of many experts is that the Popular Party, more or less conscious, contributes enthusiastically to a speech that all the surveys point out that it nourishes, before anyone else, to the openly ultra -right options. Something that has also happened in the same terms in other countries in Europe. For Anna López Ortega, a political scientist and a degree in Journalism from the University of València and an expert in ultra -right in Europe and Spain, the strategy of opposition to Pedro Sánchez promoted by Feijóo and in which he also uses catastrophes such as the Ola Fire or La Dana, only has a beneficiary.
“The PP is playing the letter of institutional misinformation and is giving wings to the speech that autonomies fail. They are not measuring their anti -Chista strategy and what they do is give the right to Vox that the autonomous communities are useless, that politicians are useless. It is a very dangerous antipolytic message for all, but also very harmful to the PP’s own interests,” he says.
LĂłpez Ortega, who has just published the book ‘The extreme right in Europe’, agrees to point out natural catastrophes as an idyllic occasion for that antipolytic message. “There are people who feel abandoned or who feel immense pain because they have lost everything. And that pain is used by the extreme right to destroy, not to build anything. Because they only point to guilty, always invented, and never propose solutions. And they are experts in exacerbating and channeling the anger against the system they intend to break down,” explains the teacher.
After the Dana grows vox
Almost all the surveys published in the last year unequivocally indicates that the main political beneficiary of the crisis caused by the Dana de València is Vox. It is the perfect paradox: a denialist of climate change collects the benefits of a catastrophe that experts link to global warming.
One of the posterior barometers of the CIS (December 2024), not only points to the Abascal party as the option that does not suffer any wear and even grows, but what for experts is even more transcendent: that their messages fit among the people. Therefore, 40% of the Valencians asked about the public polls told politicians as the main problem of Spain.
The question is what operates at the political level in Spain and other countries in our environment so that the main beneficiary of an environmental emergency is a denialist formation of climate change and that, in addition, has voted against the Congress of the deputies of the millionaire aid approved by the Government for the reconstruction of València and for the victims and those affected. For Anna López Ortega, it is a paradigm shift that reflects a new era.
“It is the replacement of politics with antipolytic and redefinition of what is true and what is a lie. Now citizens question science, technicians, official sources, to the central government and autonomies. And it is not since lies are created, it is worse. Nothing is created,” he says. “That is the new political framework imposed by the extreme right and that triumphs in many parts of the world. A framework that only appeals to emotions, which only points out enemies and does not propose solutions. The pure definition of antipolytic,”
LĂłpez Ortega also defines emergency situations as the perfect opportunity for the success of that message. “Chaos is its habitat. We saw it with the Dana and we see it now with fire, a perfect storm. Institutional misinformation of PP regional governments, simplification of complex problems to point to guilty and exaltation of rage, discontent, of despair. I imagine Vox rubbing his hands with this,” he concludes.
Both in the tragedy of Valencia and in the emergence of fires, the Popular Party has put in Liza a clear signaling strategy of the central government despite holding in the communities that governs all the competences that are required in the crisis management of this type. And the purpose is double. On the one hand, it has to do with the permanent offensive of Genoa Street in its attempt to wear Pedro Sánchez. But also with the intention of protecting their own responsibilities in management, which leaves doubts in the case of fire due to the cut in the protection systems or the lack of mobilization of resources and that, in the case of the DANA, is directly unsustainable by the role of Carlos Mazón.
What a good part of the sociologists point is that the evolution of the last year’s surveys reveals that FeijĂło not only fails to plug the escape of voters to Vox, but also manages to legitimize their systemic failure speech and lack of credibility in the institutions. All these polls also show another key that fits in the explanation that much of the vote is moved today by the emotions of anger or disaffection much more than the rational. Because there is no attissee any wear in the extreme right despite, for example, of having had management responsibilities in the emergencies of the Valencian Community. Or that its leader in Castilla y LeĂłn has not stepped on his community throughout the crisis and has followed on vacation, as if nothing. Something that does penalize other political forces.
And meanwhile, with half Spain burning, ultra -right has also dedicated itself to burning political discourse. Santiago Abascal referred to “climate terrorism” as the cause of fires, the leader Ultra Jorge BuxadĂ© came to speak of “pyreomaniac bipartisanship” and “agenist and globalist garbage”, and spokeswoman in Congress, Pepa Millán, certified the death of the autonomic system born to the heat of the 1978 Constitution: “The autonomous communities are a perfect system of evasion of evasion of evasion of evasion of evasion of evasion of evasion of evasion of evasion Responsibilities, ”he said in his networks.
The fact is that less than a year after the DANA and before one of the largest waves of registered forest fires, the first opposition party has replicated the method of pointing out others to exempt their responsibility from their own. “If you want, you can do a lot. I would ask the government to stop always arriving late,” said FeijĂło in full wave of fires. Before, after the floods of Valencia, he said: “The central government would not ask for greater collaboration. I would ask for any collaboration.”
That was the first words he spoke after the floods that caused 228 dead and caught the president of the Generalitat, Carlos MazĂłn, illocalizable in a restaurant. The government claims to have made available to the Autonomous Communities, competent in the fight against fire and emergency management, “one hundred percent” of resources at their disposal. The president, in his speech last Friday, preferred to avoid the melee with the opposition and thanked “the generosity” of all administrations.
