Arthur Britto, co-founder of Ripple and one of the creators of the XRP Ledger, has given a sign of life on social media after almost 14 years. His short but mysterious message on social media platform X has surprised and made the XRP community curious. What does the normally withdrawn Britto have to say, and what can this mean for Ripple?
Mysterious message puts XRP community to sharp
The message, which only consisted of an emoji, suddenly appeared on his account yesterday. Britto’s profile, which was founded in 2011, had so far remained completely silent. Yet he has more than 17,000 followers. Some wonder whether the account was really used by Britto itself, or whether there is a hack. For example, various members of the Ripple-CTO David Schwartz community called to confirm the authenticity of the message.
Britto is one of the original architects of the XRP network and founded the Ripple company together with Schwartz and Jed McCaleb in 2012, at the time still opencoin. Among other things, he wrote the code with which 100 billion XRP tokens were created. A leaked agreement shows that Britto itself was assigned 2 percent of the total stock of XRP.
But who is he anyway? Much is not known about him. He avoids publicity and there are no public photos or interviews with him. Ripple-CTO Schwartz described him earlier as “intensely private”. Earlier this month, Schwartz announced that he was still in contact with him.

The enigmatic message from Britto therefore raises many questions. Any signal from one of the original makers of XRP can have a major impact, especially now that the market is in good shape but remains unpredictable. Investors therefore closely follow new developments. Is this sudden activity of Britto the start of something bigger, or does it stay with a one -off sign of life?
It is striking that Britto, who once worked as a game developer, also has credits to his name in classic games such as Crypt or Medea (1984) and Armor Alley (1991). Yet since his work on XRP he has almost completely disappeared from the public eye.
