In a controversial interview, Milei says that evaders are heroes for escaping the system that, according to him, acts as an institutionalized theft

Argentine president Javier Milei of the Libertarian Party generated controversy by referring to taxpayers who evade taxes as “heroes.” Speaking blunt statements, the agent suggested that those who strictly comply with tax obligations may not have “skill or audacity” to circumvent the system.

According to CNN. The statements were made during an interview with the program “Another morning”from the broadcaster A24, last Monday (19). The focus of the discussion was the government’s proposal to regularize about $ 300 billion in funds maintained by Argentines outside the formal financial system, often in physical money.

It has not yet been defined whether the measure will be implemented by legislation or presidential decree. However, the initiative will not require the declaration of the origin of the values, according to information from the economic team.

“What is illegal?”questioned Milei. “Who protected themselves from corrupt politicians is not criminal, he is a hero.”

The Argentine leader argued that these resources, popularly known as “money on the mattress,” represent an excessive tax burden and, if reinserted into the banking system, could streamline the national economy.

In a provocative tone, Milei equipped the state with a robber:

“I am sorry for those who could not get rid [dos impostos]but who avoided did not make any mistakes ”he declared. “If someone escaped the tax authorities, great. I won’t punish him for running away from the thief [o governo].”

And added: “I must reward those who got stuck [pagando impostos] Just because another knew how to escape this chain imposed by politicians? Perhaps the ability or boldness was missing to break free. ”

The statement reinforces the president’s anti -artist discourse and promises to intensify the debate on tax reforms in Argentina.
