The Trump administration says that it will pay $ 1,000 to migrants without papers who have voluntarily returned to their country of origin as part of their mass deportation offensive.

This has been announced by the Department of National Security (DHS) in a statement on Monday, where it indicates that it will be received by irregular administrative situations in the US who use an application called CBP Home to “self -portion”, while the authorities will also take priority to their detention and expulsion.

Originally, CBP Home was the application created by the government of former president Joe Biden for migrants to ask for an appointment to process their asylum request without entering the United States and was called CBP One. Shortly after getting to power, Donald Trump changed it to CBP Home.

The promotion of “self -exporting” is the other face of the fear campaign that administration is exercising against migrants and combines with other actions such as that of the more than 200 Venezuelans sent to the prison of El Salvador.

“If you are illegally here, self -exporting is the safest, most effective and economical way to leave the United States and avoid being arrested. The DHS now offers illegal immigrants financial help for the trip and an assignment to return to their country of origin through the CBP Home application,” said the Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem. In the statement, the DHS defends self -exporting as “a way of leaving the United States” and defends that “it is estimated that the use of the CBP Home application will reduce the costs of a deportation around 70%.”

Among many of the communicative actions of the White House include campaigns and ads promoting “self -exporting” as the best alternative to end up in the hands of the immigration and customs control service (ICE) and a migratory system whose practices are increasingly in question. The process under which Venezuelan migrants were deported on March 15 is an example, since they were applied to the law of foreign enemies of 1798 and did not have access to legal guarantees.

Last April, the US president already defended in an interview in the Fox chain that planned to promote the “self -portion” for people who are irregularly in the United States without criminal history, while in the first months they would focus on expelling the “murderers” from the country.

The payment announcement comes a few hours after Trump reported this Sunday that he has ordered the reopening and expansion of the Alcatraz prison. The president explained that the prison, located on an island of difficult access and that has been closed for more than 60 years, would serve to house “more violent in the United States.” Even so, he has also linked Alcatraz’s reopening with the difficulties his government is finding to quickly deport migrants and has not ruled out using it to lock people without papers there.
