AEX Koers is recovering despite economic contraction in United States

On the Amsterdam AEX, today people seem to be heading towards an opening of 885-888 points, which is good for an increase of more than 1%. The futures for the American stock exchanges are also a lot higher today, after the figures from Microsoft and Meta were a bit better than expected.

Little about it

It seems that the market is not yet shocked by the economic contraction that seemed to be back in the data yesterday. Yesterday we received the growth figure for the US economy during the first quarter of 2025, and it came to -0.3%.

The reality, however, is that it is probably the result of a whole lot of noise, among other things due to high imports of American companies that are concerned about the impact of Trump import duties.

That of course does not mean that there is no damage, because it is not useful to have to take these kinds of actions, but this of course does not mean that the American economy is immediately in the doldrums.

That is how the market seems to be reading, and there are also plenty of positive points to be found. For example in the figures from Microsoft and Meta, which were better than expected on almost all points. The consumption and expenditure of companies are also up to date, while unemployment is historically low.

All in all, that does not cause a situation in which panic is justified, as is also apparent from the AEX reaction today.

Was the market too pessimistic?

It is quite possible that the market was too pessimistic in recent weeks, and that it is now realized that it is not all that dramatic yet.

Investors would flee from the American tech giants, because Donald Trump would demolish things in his own country. There is nothing to be seen in the economic data at all, and it could well be that narrative in the coming weeks in the coming weeks in favor of America.

Measured from the beginning of the year, this is the provisional result. The gold price rose by 23.43% and is the absolute king of 2025 at the moment, while the American stock exchange is still in the red figures.

The same applies to the AEX with a decrease of -1.04% that it can turn into a positive score today, provided that it can retain the increase of more than 1% at the opening.
