Haaretz report comes at the moment the Supreme Court gives to Prime Minister Israeli longer to respond to the testimony of Shin Bet’s fired head
New events surfaced about the murder of 15 Palestinian doctors and rescuers by Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip last month, with alleged evidence contradicting the allegation of Israel’s defense forces that soldiers did not shot indiscriminately at health professionals.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Wednesday that his analysis of the materials collected by the IDF themselves as part of an internal investigation into the incident contradicted the army’s allegation that soldiers did not shot indiscriminately against Palestinian ambulances and a fire car in the early hours of March 23.
Instead, Haaretz said, the soldiers continually shot vehicles for three and a half minutes at close range, despite attempts by humanitarian workers to identify themselves.
Assad Al-Pensarah’s family, one of the two survivors of the attack, filed a petition on Wednesday to the Supreme Court of Israel requesting details about his detention in Israel. The Israeli authorities confirmed last week that Nsasrah was in custody, but, according to war emergency law, the whereabouts of Gaza’s detainees can be kept secret and they may be prevented from consulting a lawyer for 45 days. NSASRAH is not entitled to legal counseling until May 7.
In Israeli political news on Thursday, the Supreme Court granted Benjamin Netanyahu an extension until Sunday to present an official refutation to the testimony of her fired Shin Bet boss, Ronen Bar.
It was expected that Israeli Prime Minister would accuse the head of the General Lying Security Service, in a statement that should be presented by the end of Thursday, in response to the allegations made by the head of security in his own 31 pages testimony earlier this week.
The Supreme Court of Israel suspended the controversy of bar after a ministerial vote last month, widespread protests and a petition by the attorney general, Gali Baharav-iara, on the grounds that the measure may be illegal. The battle between the two is taking the country on the brink of a constitutional crisis.
SHIN BET has been investigating close to Netanyahu advisers for alleged national security violations, including leakage of confidential documents for foreign media and supposed receipt of Qatar money, which is known for providing significant financial aid to Hamas.
In his testimony, Bar accused Netanyahu of trying to fire him after his refusal to fulfill requests, including spying on former state protesters and helping the prime minister to postpone his statement in his criminal trial. Bar also claimed that he was made clear that he was expected to be “personally loyal” to the Prime Minister.
Netanyahu said he lost confidence in bar ability to lead Shin Bet. He intensified his attack on the bar on Wednesday night, ahead of expected record, sharing the recording of a telephone conversation between a Shin Bet agent and a policeman, allegedly proving that the “wide-right activists” agency.
The relationship between the two men, already tense, worsened further after the disclosure of a Shin Bet investigation pointing out political problems before the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
Netanyahu never accepted any responsibility for the worst Israel National Security Disaster, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, led to the kidnapping and maintenance of 251 hostages in the Gaza Strip and began the devastating war in Palestinian territory.
The head of the powerful Israel Histadrut Union, Arnon Bar-David, threatened on Thursday to summon a national strike if the government disobeyed a possible order from the Superior Court to reintegrate bar, describing such a measure as a “red line.”
Two earlier attacks from HistaDrut placed Netanyahu’s far right coalition under significant pressure. One of them in March 2023 was triggered by the decision of the Prime Minister to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for his opposition to a proposal for judicial reform. The September 2024 strike occurred in favor of a hostage agreement and a ceasefire in the war in Gaza, after Hamas murdering six hostages.
In Gaza, on Wednesday, Israeli air strikes killed at least 28 people, according to the Ministry of Health of the Territory, whose UN data evaluates as precise.
