US Vice President Jd Vance asked European states to demonstrate greater independence, installing them not to be USAs’ vassals. He also said that EU governments could have done more to oppose Washington in relation to the Iraq war.

US Vice President Jd Vance has asked Europe to show greater independence in an interview published on Tuesday, asking countries not to be “against the US.”

He also said that EU capitals could have done more to oppose Washington over the Iraq war.

Many European nations were correct about the madness of the US -led Iraq invasion, US President Jd Vance said in an interview with the UNHERD right -wing news site.

Following his attacking attack on European leaders at the Munich Security Conference in February, citing issues of cultural war and migration, Vance sought to paint a more positive picture of his feelings in relation to the continent.

What Vance said about Europe and the Iraq War

“I love Europe… I love the European people,” Vance told the site, adding: “It’s not good for Europe to be a permanent security of security in the United States,” echoing her previous criticism of many European states for her alleged US security and dependence.

According to Vance, it is “good for the United States” that Europe is more “independent” – allowing countries to “face” US foreign policy decisions.

Vance, who served as a military journalist for six months in Iraq with the US Marines, said the European nations who opposed the Iraq war could have been firmer in opposing the White House of then -US president George W. Bush.

“I think many European nations were right about our invasion of Iraq. And frankly, if the Europeans had been slightly more independent and a little more willing to position themselves, perhaps we could have saved the whole world from the strategic disaster that was the invasion of Iraq led by Americans.”

How was Europe divided over Iraq?

German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder vehemently opposed the war, calling her “the mother of all judgment errors” and making the war opposition to a campaign in Germany’s general elections in 2002.

Meanwhile, French President Jacques Chirac publicly stated that France would see any UN resolution authorizing the war.

Belgium and Greece were among the states that most supported Franco-German opposition to war, while countries such as United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Poland and Denmark supported the US led invasion.

What else did JD vance say about Europe?

Since taking over vice president in January, Vance has adopted a combative approach to Europe. Like US President Donald Trump, he criticized the continent for lack of defense spending and export dependence on the United States.

The vice president, who is visiting Rome during Easter, took advantage of his speech at the Munich security conference to disregard the threats represented by Russia and China as the largest that Europe faces. Instead, he accused European leaders of censoring freedom of expression and not listening to voters about immigration.

Vance’s political antipathy for Europe was also clear in a chat group message about Yemen, reported by The Atlantic magazine, in which he said, “I hate to rescue Europe again.”
