Israel and Türkiye start discreet conversations in Azerbaijan to contain the military climbing in Syria after air strikes and threats about Palmira
An Israeli delegation talked to Turkish authorities in Azerbaijan on Wednesday (9), confirmed the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday (10), while both countries try to avoid unintentional military clashes in Syria amid increasing tensions.
In a statement, Netanyahu’s office announced that the Israeli delegation was led by National Security Counselor Tzachi Hanegbi, with the participation of high representatives of the Ministry of Defense and security services.
Quoting an Israeli political source, Israeli state broadcaster Kan TV News reported on Thursday that Israel emphasized during negotiations that any change in the implementation of foreign forces in Syria would cross a red line and would be considered a violation of all rules.
Israel broadcast a message to Türkiye that military intervention, especially the establishment of Turkish bases in the Palmira area, would have repercussions on the Syrian regime, according to Kan TV.
Quoting sources from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, TRTIA’s TRT state broadcaster said the two countries have started technical discussions to establish a mechanism designed to avoid unintentional military meetings in Syria.
“Work will continue to establish a voltage reduction mechanism,” according to TRT.
Development occurs after Israeli air strikes intensified against Syrian targets recently, including attacks on the military air bases of Palmira and T-4 (Tiyas) in Homs Province, in the center of Syria in late March.
According to media reports, Türkiye is planning to deploy troops and air defense systems on some air bases in Syria.
