From $ 10,000 to $ 4,000: Why Standard Chartered is no longer Bullish on Ethereum

Decrease of 42% since the start of 2025

Askel Kibar from Standard Chartered warns traders who expect Ethereum to be buying at a discount. Large falls do not necessarily mean that a soil has to be in sight for a financial asset.

According to Kibar, it takes time before soils are formed and the course can turn around.

At the beginning of 2025, Standard Chartered still counted on an Ethereum course of 10,000 dollars. There is little left now, because the current prediction is therefore at $ 4,000. Geoff Kendrick, an important employee of the bank, expects that the structural fall in Ethereum will be continued.

“Layer-2 Blockchains should have improved the scalability of Ethereum, but we estimate that Base (a more important layer-2) has shed around $ 50 billion to Market Cap from Ethereum,” said Kendrick.

All the profits that base makes do not go to Ethereum, but to Coinbase. And that is where the problem lies immediately, because how do those profits or transaction costs ultimately end up with Ethereum’s token holders? That is the question and the answer for Ethereum does not seem to be positive.
