The encounter between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian official Volodyymyr Zensensky has completely got out of hand. What should have been a diplomatic consultation in an open confrontation before the eyes of the world press. Trump interrupted Zelensky several times and even forbade him to take the floor: “You can’t talk”. The tension ran so high that Zensky left early from the White House, without signing the planned agreement on Ukrainian raw materials.
Fierce exchanges and interruptions
The relationship between Trump and Zensky was already tense before the meeting. Trump had previously called the Ukrainian president a “dictator without elections”, while Zensky in turn stated that Trump was in a bubble of Russian disinformation. This was the prelude to an extremely difficult conversation in the Oval Office, where the American vice president JD Vance was also present.
During the conversation, Trump insisted at Zensky to accept a ceasefire with Russia. “You have a damn good chance that you will look forward to it, thanks to us,” Trump said. When Zensky wanted to respond, Trump rejected him resolutely with the words “you can’t talk”. The Ukrainian president emphasized that Putin will only go further and that Ukraine cannot agree to a peace agreement without hard security guarantees.

Vice president JD Vance also fiercely joined the discussion and fiercely criticized Zensky. Trump cut him off and repeated that Zensky had to accept that the US will no longer write off blank checks.
Zensky leaves the White House prematurely
The exchange of words became more and more intense and resulted in a scream, in which both leaders drowned out each other. Eventually Zensky decided to break down the conversation and leave the White House prematurely. The planned signing of the raw material deal was canceled, a clear sign that the negotiations ended up at a low point.
On Truth Social, Trump later reflected on the meeting and stated that “Zensky is not ready for peace” as long as the US is involved, because he thinks American support gives him a negotiating benefit. “He can come back if he wants peace,” Trump added.
