The year could not have started better for the AEX. Where nobody counted on a strong start of the Dutch stock market index, the AEX surprised friend and foe in 2025 with impressive increases. At the time of writing there is already an annual return of 8% on the signs for the AEX before 2025.
On to the magical limit of 1,000 points
Where Bitcoin has difficulty recovering his positive momentum of November and December 2024, a special milestone is a special milestone for the AEX. For the first time in history, the stock market index could break the level of 1,000 points.
There is still a big way to go, because it still has to win at least 50 points for that. That is not easy, but also not impossible of course.
The beginning is in any case solid and the graph above gives hope. We see the 50-day average crossing up with the 100-day and 200-day average of the race.
Usually that is a positive signal for financial assets, and that shows the start of an upward trend. In this way, investors in the AEX can hope for more. In addition, it is an age -old stock market wisdom that powerful price action is often a harbinger for more powerful course action.
What does the AEX need?
It is difficult to say what the AEX needs to reach that rate of 1,000 points.
In principle, the current climate seems sufficient for that. The European Central Bank (ECB) is in a position in which they are a little more forced to lower interest rates. Certainly if we compare the situation in the eurozone with that in the United States. Our economy is simply a little less stable.
At the same time, inflation is still a problem, and it would not be desirable if the euro loses much more ground on the US dollar. In this way there is also a possibility that the ECB is forced to first wait for action from the US central bank.
Anyway, the market is waiting for a few interesting months, because Donald Trump is not standing still right now, and the world is trying to move with him. We are going to have a few volatile months anyway.
