China’s Foreign Ministry criticized, on Wednesday, 14, the US decision to impose 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports, claiming that the measure violates rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) (WTO) rules and compromises the multilateral trade system.
Tariffs were announced by US President Donald Trump on Monday, 12, through proclamation determining the increase in tariffs from March 4, as reported by Reuters.
In response to the measure, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that “protectionism leads nowhere, and the commercial and tariff wars have no winners.”
China continues to follow the developments of the US decision and evaluate the impacts of the measure on the global metal market and the international trade system.
