The Israeli Premier reaffirms his opposition to a Palestinian state and suggests that the Palestinians settle in Saudi Arabia, amid tensions with Riade and the US

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested on Thursday that Palestinians should establish a state in Saudi Arabia, rather than in their homeland, in their latest rejection of the right to self-determination of Palestinians. Netanyahu suggests Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia as a “viable proposal.”

“Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia; They have a lot of land there, ”Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli channel 14. Netanyahu suggests Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia but faced criticism.

Comments come at a time when Saudi Arabia and Israel seem even further from normalizing their relationships, more than a year after US officials said an agreement was close.

Riad repeatedly stated over the past year that only a clear way to create a Palestinian state would lead the country to establish formal ties with Israel, but Netanyahu completely rejected the idea on Thursday, calling it “threat to security of Israel”.

“Especially not a Palestinian state,” he said. “After 7 October? Do you know what this is? There was a Palestinian state, he was called Gaza. Gaza, led by Hamas, was a Palestinian state, and see what happened. ” He believes that a future Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia could avoid such problems.

This occurred after a joint press conference with Donald Trump, in which the US President announced his plan to expel Gaza Palestinians and turn the Palestinian enclave into the “Mediterranean Riviera,” with the US assuming control of the territory.

The normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia was discussed between the two leaders and, besides their strong rejection of the main Saudi condition of establishing a Palestinian state, Netanyahu insisted that peace between Israel and the kingdom is a reality to come.

“Not only is it viable, but I think it will happen,” he said.

The press conference was quickly followed by a statement from the Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministry, which stated that the kingdom’s position on the creation of a Palestinian state is “firm and unshakable.”

“Its Real Highness emphasized that Saudi Arabia will continue its tireless efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without it,” the statement said.

The interview took place while Netanyahu was on an official visit to the United States.
