Eduardo Serenellini leaves the government of Javier Milei and his resignation unleashed a wave of comments and analysis that focus not only on the government’s economic policies, but also in their public perception.
Serenellini, who held the position of Secretary of Communication and Press, had been the protagonist of a strong controversy at the beginning of the government of La Libertad advances. The now former official had expressed in a television interview that “We must not be ashamed to eat once a day,” and said that “you have to accept it,” in an attempt to justify the adjustment measures implemented by the Government, while the same powerful were always benefited. These words, far from going unnoticed, generated a massive rejection in social networks and in various sectors of the population. The statement, qualified as “an absolute barbarity” on the daily left, reflects the disconnection of the authorities with the reality facing millions of workers and popular sectors in the country.
The defense of economic adjustment as a supposedly “inevitable” need that implies a disproportionate sacrifice for the most vulnerable sectors has been a constant in the official discourse, but Serenellini, with its phrase, highlighted the insensitivity that characterizes these policies.
This Tuesday his departure from the government was known. As reported by Serenellini himself in his X account, the decision responds to “personal reasons.” In his message, he thanked the confidence placed by the president and assured that the relationship of friendship with him remains intact. However, nearby sources point out that since their arrival in the government, Serenellini would have maintained a conflictive relationship with Karina Milei, sister and key figure in the presidential environment. This episode marks a new chapter in the internal tensions of the government, which has already faced other resignations in its short management.
Serenellini, a 58 -year -old journalist, had previously worked as a driver in LN+ and led a morning program on Continental Radio. On December 29, 2023 he had assumed as an official in replacement of Belén Stettler, who left the position after only three weeks.
