An iconic holographic Charizard Pokémon card from 1999 is being auctioned on the Polygon (POL) network. This is a physical card that has been tokenized as a non-fungible token (NFT).
Polygon Labs and Courtyard join forces to tokenize this legendary Pokémon card via the Polygon network. The tokenization allows collectors to trade the card securely without the need for physical shipping. If the new owner still wishes to receive the physical card, it can be removed from the secure vault and sent at any time.
The card is being marketed for an estimated value of $250,000. Since 2020, similar cards have already sold for prices between $264,000 and almost $400,000. This makes the Charizard card one of the most sought-after and iconic Pokémon cards in the world. The rarity of the card is determined by several factors: it is a first edition, 25 years old, has a holographic design and represents one of the most iconic Pokémon. Furthermore, the map is in excellent condition, which is rare for such copies.
NFT market recovery
Polygon and Courtyard’s announcement comes at a time when the NFT market is showing signs of recovery after months of decline. In November, trading volume rose 22% to $698 million, according to analytics platform DappRadar. Although the number of NFTs sold fell 11% to 3 million, the increase in high-value transactions points to a renewed appreciation of NFTs.
This growth is mainly driven by popular projects such as CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). CryptoPunks saw an impressive 392% increase in trading volume, while BAYC’s floor price rose 75.79% to $79,727. Analysts cite improved liquidity and higher crypto prices as the main reasons for this recovery, reinforcing confidence in the market.
