Os USA plans to launch a new series of restrictions on semiconductor exports to China this Monday, marking the third major action of its kind in three years. The measure will affect 140 companies, including chip equipment maker, Naura Technology Group.

Other companies like Piotech e SiCarrier Technology will also face new limitations, which include restrictions on the export of advanced memory chips and additional chip manufacturing tools.

This move is part of a broader strategy by the Biden administration to limit China’s capabilities in the semiconductor sector, especially in technologies that could be used in military applications or that pose risks to US national security.

The decision comes at a critical time, just weeks before the inauguration of former President Donald Trump, who is expected to maintain many of the restrictive policies implemented during the Biden administration.

Among the restrictions imposed, the limitations on shipments of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, essential for advanced applications such as artificial intelligence training, stand out.

Additionally, the package includes restrictions on 24 new chipmaking tools and three software tools, as well as additional limitations on the export of chipmaking equipment originating in third countries, such as Singapore e Malaysia.

These new rules not only directly impact Chinese companies, but could also affect global semiconductor manufacturers, including American companies like Lam Research, KLAe Applied Materialsin addition to international companies such as the Dutch ASM International.
