Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is rumored to be getting an audience with Donald Trump as the latter picks people for his administration and appoints heads of government departments. It is not difficult to guess why Trump wants to speak to Armstrong. This is probably about his crypto ambitions.
Is this good or bad for Bitcoin?
Now the question remains whether Trump’s conversation with Armstrong is positive or negative for Bitcoin.
Many Bitcoiners will put it on the negative, because Armstrong is known as someone who really likes to talk about altcoins. His exchange platform of course revolves around selling altcoins, and that is clearly reflected in Armstrong’s stories.
On the other hand, he is of course CEO and founder of one of the most reliable and largest exchanges in the world. Coinbase is a listed player that, among other things, plays an important role in managing Bitcoin for the ETFs.
In this way, Coinbase is important for Bitcoin, and vice versa. In that respect, it will be interesting to hear what Trump and Armstrong talked about later.
Presidential Advisory Council on Bitcoin and Crypto
During the Bitcoin 2024 conference in July, Trump expressed his intention, among other things, to create a presidential advisory council on Bitcoin and crypto.
Armstrong could be part of that.
Furthermore, Trump of course promised the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, with which America would at least hold the seized Bitcoin. At the time of writing, this amounts to more than 200,000 Bitcoin, with a value of around 20 billion dollars.
In that respect, they already have a nice stock, but of course not nearly enough to provide a serious counterbalance to the national debt. Would Armstrong also speak to Trump about purchasing and holding more Bitcoin? And will they do that via Coinbase?
Supporting Coinbase, an American exchange, in this way would of course fit in with Trump’s “America First” policy.
