The AEX price has not been going well at all lately. At the beginning of 2024, the Amsterdam stock exchange index performed fantastically and even outpaced the S&P 500 and Nasdaq with a return of more than 20%.
A few months later, the AEX is suddenly in a very different position, and there is only a return of 8.59%.
AEX has completely lost it
Of course, the current return of almost 10% for 2024 is still good if you put it in historical perspective.
But that’s not how the financial world works.
Investors see the American stock markets going through the roof, gold breaking new all-time highs and of course Bitcoin rising towards the magical price of 100,000 dollars.
Why would you still invest in a stock market index that returned less than 10% this year? That seems to be the sentiment at the moment, and as a result the capital flows for the AEX are going in completely the wrong direction.
Important border lost
To top it all off, the AEX also lost the apparently important limit of 860 points yesterday.
Earlier this year, that limit served as an important support for the AEX price. Now that hope also seems to have disappeared, because yesterday the price closed below that psychological barrier.
The big question is whether, how and when the AEX could start a revival again. For now, that doesn’t seem to be happening, as investors are now fully focused on the US market, on Bitcoin and even on MicroStrategy.
What do you think? Is it a matter of time before the Amsterdam stock market index rebounds, or should we keep the focus for the time being on the aforementioned assets that are currently going through the roof?
The latter seems to be the case, and that is why the year 2024 could end on a negative note for the AEX, if that is not already the case at these prices.
