The iconic mobile game Flappy Bird has made a comeback after more than a decade. There has been a lot of talk about the resurrection lately with a lot of speculation about the possible integration of crypto. Although there are still many question marks, it is certain that crypto is part of the addictive game.

Flappy Bird Return

Who doesn’t remember it? A small bird that you have to fly through narrow gaps between pipes by tapping on the screen. It is a simple and frustrating game that really puts your thumb muscles to work. The game was launched in 2013 and quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon.

In 2014, Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen pulled the game from app stores due to its overwhelming attention and addictiveness. Now the game is back, but Nguyen has nothing to do with it anymore.

The Flappy Bird Foundation has acquired the legal rights through a company called Gametech Holdingd LLC and has launched a new version as a Telegram mini-game. It will soon be playable on desktop and mobile web browsers and will be back on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store next year.

Since the resurrection of Flappy Bird, the rumor mill has been working overtime about a possible crypto integration. Several hidden web pages refer to a play-to-earn model, a native crypto token with airdrop and a launch on the Solana (SOL) network.

Flappy Bird’s official X account wrote earlier today that users will have the option to use Web3 features, while “the beloved core gameplay remains the same.” “No Web3 wallet connection is required to play and the game will never contain NFTs,” it added.

FLAP token

There has been no announcement from the Flappy Bird Foundation about its own cryptocurrency. However, plans have been announced to integrate with The Open Network, the blockchain network founded by Telegram that runs multiple tap-to-earn games.

The Flappy Bird mini-app asks you to connect a TON wallet, suggesting that a token launch is imminent. There is also a ”flap-to-earn” promo currently running, promising a future airdrop without any specific mention of a token.

The web version of the game also includes the listing of a FLAP token on the TON blockchain, as reported by Protos. However, that page has since been taken down.
