PlayStation: Sony launches special collection with retro 90s design

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the launch of the first PlayStation console, Sony Interactive Entertainment is bringing together a special collection that unites the legacy of the past with the future of gaming. PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection features new exclusive limited edition designs inspired by the first console released in 1994, but now applied to PS5.

The special edition includes two highlight packages. The PlayStation 5 Pro – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle comes with a 2TB PS5 Pro console, compatible with Wi-Fi 7 in select regions, plus custom accessories like the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge, and a charging station.

For collectors, the edition also includes stickers, limited edition posters and a paper clip in the shape of classic PlayStation icons. PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – Limited Edition Bundle offers a console with a 1TB SSD and the same special edition accessories. Only 12,300 PS5 Pro units will be made available, in honor of the PlayStation’s original launch date.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment, the evolution of PlayStation over the past 30 years has been marked by constant innovation. “Since the launch of our first console, we have had five incredible generations of innovations and experiences that we have brought to the PlayStation community. PlayStation has evolved from 300,000-pixel graphics to over 8 million in 4K, and audio that began as stereo sound now offers an immersive 3D audio experience. Everything we have done has been to ensure that PlayStation continues to be the best place to play,” the company says. “We are bringing the original PlayStation design back to the latest products for PS5, celebrating the last 30 years of our journey and looking to the future with the same commitment to innovate as technology advances.”

Fans will be able to purchase items from the collection in regions where the direct.playstation.com is available, including United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austriastarting September 26. For regions where the website is not available, pre-orders will be accepted from participating retailers starting October 10.

This collection, which also includes accessories such as the PlayStation Portal Remote Player and special edition DualSense controllers, marks not only a visual return to PlayStation’s legacy, but also reaffirms the brand’s commitment to continue innovating for the next 30 years and beyond.
