Bolivia woke up this Wednesday (11) with more than 3.7 thousand fires in its territory, while Brazil reduced the records from 5.1 thousand to just over 2.9 thousand in the last 24 hours, in the Burning Program of the National Institute for Space Research.
Since the beginning of the month, the Brazilian government has sent a humanitarian mission to the neighboring country to operate in the border area, which is shared between the two countries. The team is made up of 37 military firefighters from the National Public Security Force and 25 firefighters from the Military Fire Department of the Federal District and works in cooperation with Bolivian forces.
Bolivia borders the states of Acre, Rondônia, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, in the two biomes that have been heavily affected by fires in Brazil, the Amazon, which recorded 1,200 outbreaks in the last 24 hours, and the Pantanal with 204 outbreaks.
On Tuesday (10), the minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Flávio Dino, determined that the federal government reinforce actions to combat fires in the two biomes, by calling on more military firefighters.
During a visit to the state of Amazonas, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree to create the Integrated Multi-Agency Center for Federal Operational Coordination (Ciman Federal) and the National Committee for Integrated Fire Management. The goal is for the new institution to monitor and coordinate actions to combat forest fires among the different spheres of government.
