Elon Musk’s company Starlink announced on Tuesday (3) that it would block access to X (formerly Twitter) in Brazil, but backtracked after initially stating that it would maintain the service until the company’s accounts were unblocked by the Brazilian courts.
The company mentioned Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ account twice in its publication, claiming that an order from the minister last week froze the company’s finances, making it impossible for it to carry out financial transactions.
Starlink said it “immediately” filed an appeal with the Supreme Federal Court (STF) against the decision, arguing that the minister’s order is “illegal” and requesting that the assets be unfrozen.
Starlink’s satellite internet service, operated by SpaceX, has around 215,000 “access” points in Brazil, according to data from the telecommunications regulatory agency.

“To our customers in Brazil (who may not be able to read this as a result of X being blocked by @alexandre): The Starlink team is doing everything we can to keep you connected.
Following last week’s order by @alexandre freezing Starlink’s finances and preventing Starlink from conducting financial transactions in Brazil, we immediately initiated legal proceedings in the Brazilian Supreme Court explaining the gross illegality of this order and asking the Court to unfreeze our assets. Regardless of Starlink’s illegal treatment in freezing our assets, we are complying with the order to block access to X in Brazil.
