The letter, signed by journalists, news sites and press freedom organizations, calls on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to stop the United States from selling and transferring weapons to Israel, which has killed 160 Palestinian journalists.

A group of more than 100 journalists signed a letter addressed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, calling on the Biden administration to impose a ban on arms sales to Israel for the murder of Palestinian journalists in Gaza.

The letter arrives just over a week after The Israeli army killed Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail al-Ghoul and his camera operator Rami al-Rifi attacking his car with a missile.

Since Israel began attacks on the Gaza Strip last October, the Israeli forces have killed more than 160 Palestinian journalists who worked there.

“As journalists, publications and press freedom groups standing in solidarity with the brave Palestinian journalists in Gaza, we call on you to do more to protect journalists and show unwavering support for free and independent media by supporting an arms embargo against Israel,” the letter said.

“Israel’s deliberate attacks on journalists follow a long-standing pattern by the Israeli government of suppressing truthful reporting about its treatment of Palestinians and its war in Gaza. By providing Israel with the weapons used to kill journalists, the State Department is encouraging violent repression of journalism by Israel.”
