Ursula von der Leyen, recently re-elected president of the European Commissionannounced this Friday, 26, that the European Union will transfer €1.5 billion in proceeds from confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine. The announcement was made via the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.

In her post, von der Leyen stated:

“The European Union stands by Ukraine. Today, we transfer €1.5 billion in revenues from Russian fixed assets for the defense and reconstruction of Ukraine. There is no better symbol or use for Kremlin money than making Ukraine and all of Europe a safer place to live.”
