LOCKOUT OF THE BRIDGESTONE ARGENTINA EMPLOYERS’ ASSOCIATION AND REQUEST FOR OPENING OF PREVENTIVE CRISIS PROCEDURE AFTER DISTRIBUTING PROFITS
Immediately after Bridgestone announced an illegal “launch” for one week for all employees, a provision that does not exist in current labor regulations, supposedly for stock regulation, SUTNA reported this conduct as illegal to the Ministry of Labor of the Province of Buenos Aires and demanded an immediate hearing before the hearings could take place starting this Sunday, July 14. After a hearing that was frustrated by the absence of the employer and another where only an evasive document was presented, today, Tuesday, July 16, the employer sent letters to numerous workers announcing an indefinite suspension, and at the same time the Secretary of Labor, dependent on Human Capital, announced that Bridgestone had filed a request to open a preventive crisis procedure (PPC) threatening layoffs and labor flexibility.
From SUTNA we demand the immediate lifting of this employers’ Lockout and, from now on, we speak out against this request to open PPC, recalling that the Bridgestone company was forced to distribute profits for the 2021 and 2022 financial years due to the large and undeniable profitability obtained by this tire manufacturer and importer, which defines itself as the “largest in the world.”
The National Labor Secretariat cannot continue to act in this scandalous and shameless manner, as it has done with the PPC request from Madanes in FATE with 192 million dollars in profits, now with a multinational company that distributes profits due to the enormity of the same, while it positions itself as the largest importer of tires in the country, exchanging national labor for foreign tires.
We call on all Bridgestone workers and the union today, Tuesday, July 16, to demonstrate in front of the factory, starting at 8 pm, to demand the end of the Lockout and the rejection of the request to open the PPC.
