A series of statements from Democratic Party figures suggest growing pressure for President Joe Biden not to run for re-election.

Since Monday, more Democratic leaders have expressed concerns about Biden’s viability in the upcoming presidential election, reflecting fears that his candidacy could negatively affect the party’s chances in congressional races.

In the latest survey, Peter Welch, a senator for the party, was the first to publicly call for Biden to withdraw.

Welch expressed his concerns in an article for the Washington Post, where he argues that despite Biden’s past efforts against Donald Trump, he should reconsider his candidacy.

George Clooney, a prominent Democratic supporter, also expressed a similar opinion in the New York Times.

This wave of discontent culminated in a critical moment for Biden’s campaign, marked by a press conference scheduled for 6:30 pm this Thursday, where the president will have to respond directly about his physical and cognitive conditions.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described the event as a “big boy’s press conference,” indicating the importance of the event to the campaign.

Additionally, representatives such as Pat Ryan and Earl Blumenauer have also spoken out in favor of Biden’s withdrawal from the race, joining other Democrats who have publicly expressed this opinion.

Nancy Pelosi, a former House speaker and one of the party’s top leaders, signaled in an interview that Biden should make a definitive decision soon.

In response, Biden’s campaign has stepped up its efforts, including scheduling a new interview with NBC on Monday, the second in two weeks. It is part of a strategy to expose the president to greater public scrutiny and demonstrate his ability to lead without assistance.

The situation shows that instability within the party still persists, despite efforts to consolidate support around Biden, as party leaders and voters assess the implications of his candidacy for the political future of the party and the country.
