Number of crypto users worldwide to grow to 1 billion within two years

Lunu CEO Pavlo Denysiuk predicts a massive growth in the number of crypto users worldwide. Speaking at NFT Fest 2024, Denysiuk said he expects the number of crypto owners to triple within two years, which would mean there would be more than one billion users.

“We will see at least a two to threefold increase in crypto ownership globally,” Denysiuk said, noting a surge in the adoption of crypto payments in particular.

Mass Adoption of Crypto Payments

According to Denysiuk, the acceptance of crypto payments is only a matter of time. Currently, there are around 560 million crypto holders, which represents 6.8% of the world’s population. Denysiuk sees the infrastructure as the biggest obstacle to the further spread of crypto payments.

However, there is a lot of work being done to improve this infrastructure. He believes that it will soon be possible to pay with crypto in everyday stores like Starbucks. “It’s just another payment method,” he says.

Denysiuk is convinced that stablecoin payments will play a significant role in this transition. Stablecoins are pegged to traditional currencies such as the dollar or the euro and therefore offer stability and trust. This makes them an attractive option for both consumers and businesses.

Stablecoins as a bridge to broader crypto adoption

With his company Lunu, Denysiuk is working on developing a payment system for stablecoins. He explains that stablecoins are the ideal bridge between the crypto world and the traditional financial system. The market value of stablecoins currently exceeds $163 billion, which is almost 10 percent of the total crypto market capitalization.

“The potential for crypto payments is clearly there,” says Denysiuk. “To realize this potential, improving accessibility is key. Currently, crypto is still too complicated for many people, and the lack of usability is the main barrier to further adoption.”
