User experience (UX) remains a major challenge in the crypto industry and is a barrier to cross-generational adoption. For many crypto users, the ability to conduct on-chain transactions without having to worry about which network is being used would be a valuable UX upgrade – and some crypto startups are looking to answer the call.
Not being aware of the use of blockchain
The idea that users should not be aware of the use of blockchain, also called blockchain abstraction, is one of the promises for a better Web3 experience. This concept powers Stripchain, an interoperability protocol that recently raised $10 million to enable chain abstraction at scale.
“Just as we don’t care about Netflix’s backend system, we shouldn’t care about the backend system of a decentralized application,” said the pseudonymous researcher named “0xnovachrono,” who, together with Isa Sertkaya and Narayana Pryusty, created the protocol leads to.
Better UX needed for mass adoption
Sora Ventures led Stripchain’s funding round, which included angel investors Santiago Santos, Frontier Research’s Stephane Gosselin, Messari’s Ryan Selkis, and venture capital firms Hyperithm, Shima Capital, Hypersphere, Mechanism, and Ascensive Assets.
“As we will have more and more L1s and L2s, for mass adoption we need a better UX to abstract the chain-specific knowledge. The biggest pain point for newcomers is the prior knowledge of different chains, VMs, key management, etc.,” according to a Sora Ventures spokesperson.
Communicate and coordinate with different protocols
The startup allows developers to create commands called “intents,” which allow them to perform actions such as transferring data between blockchains. Based on a system called stripVM, it will allow applications to communicate and coordinate using different protocols.
A key difference between the solution and other interoperability protocols relies on the focus on the transaction layer and the use of a proof-of-authority system. While previous interoperability solutions focused on the protocol layer (such as Cosmos’ Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol) or the contractual layer via bridges, Stripchain facilitates data transfer at the user layer.
“As an industry, we have made giant leaps in connecting values between blockchains using bridges, but we have yet to connect monolithic applications between the execution layers of different systems,” said 0xnovachrono. Stripchain’s testnet is currently in private beta and is expected to launch in the coming months.
