The secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, criticized this Tuesday, 7th, the attacks by Israeli forces against the Palestinian city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, where a genocide that has already killed around 35 thousand Palestinians since October last year.
“An attack on Rafah would be a strategic error, a political calamity and a humanitarian nightmare. I appeal to all those who have influence over Israel to do everything in their power to help prevent even more tragedies,” the leader wrote on one of his social networks.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Balkhy, Israel’s military operation in Rafah must be stopped immediately so as not to endanger the lives of 1.5 million Palestinians, including around of 600 thousand children.
“The expansion of the military operation in Rafah must end now. The safety of 1.5 million people, including 600,000 children, is in grave danger,” he wrote on social media.
The Palestinian city was home to around 280,000 people before the Israeli massacre began in October, but the population in Rafah reached around 1.5 million people, the majority being women and children.
