In the midst of the discussion about the Labor Reform, the INDEC released the labor market data for the third quarter of this year. There he reported that the unemployment rate fell from 6.9% in the third quarter of 2024 to 6.6% in the same period of this year. Which is equivalent to 1.6 million unemployed.

This noticeable drop of 0.3 points year-on-year was mainly due to the creation of informal employment. Unregistered workers and self-employment accounted for the destruction of salaried jobs. Thus, 85% of the new jobs, 201,000 workers, in the last year were “black”.

In this way, informality in the third quarter was at the highest levels of the last two years, rising from 42.6% to 43.3% of those employed in the last year. In the case of salaried employees, the proportion is 36.7%, also among the highest in recent years.
