Abortion initiatives will be voted on in 10 states
Along with the presidential elections this Tuesday ten states will also vote on various initiatives on the right to abortion. Let us remember that In the United States the right to abortion is not law but depended on a court ruling known as “Roe v. Wade” that It was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022.
That is to say that from that moment each state has its own laws which allowed abortion to become totally illegal in some states and in others it has been restricted to the maximum.
This has been a central theme in Kamala Harris’ campaign, which saw the percentage of voters among women increase in all polls.
Most of State initiatives up for a vote today would restore protections for abortion access that were in effect under the “Roe vs. Wade” ruling.
In the states of Arizona, Florida, Montana, Nevada, Colorado, South Dakota, Missouri, New York and Maryland The initiatives will seek measures to provide state constitutional rights to abortion, while in the case of Nebraska There will be two ballots, one to provide a state right to abortion and another to limit abortion after the first trimester. In the case of New York, the goal is to expand the state’s anti-discrimination laws to include reproductive health protections.
