Democrat Rosa DeLauro said removing provisions restricting US investment in China conflicts with the billionaire’s interests

The top Democrat on the US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee said this Friday (20) that Republicans in Congress are protecting Elon Musk’s Chinese investments by eliminating provisions that restrict US investments.

Representative Rosa DeLauro said in a letter that Musk, CEO of electric car maker Tesla, may have interfered in the government’s funding process to remove a provision regulating American investments in China, due to his “extensive investments in China in sectors- key, his personal relationships with the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, and calls into question the true reason for his opposition to the original financing agreement.”

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives on Friday passed legislation that prevented a midnight government shutdown. The legislation extends government funding through March 14, provides $100 billion to states affected by disasters and $10 billion to farmers.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Musk posted several criticisms of DeLauro on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, including one in which he said she “needs to be kicked out of Congress!”

Musk also commented that he was satisfied with the spending package: “It went from a bill that weighed kilos to one that weighed ounces,” he wrote on X.
