AEX price plunges again

The AEX price is unable to stay above the 900 point mark, which means that the largest stock market index in the Netherlands remains in trouble. While the AEX was still ahead of the American S&P 500 and Nasdaq at the beginning of 2024, we now mainly see stagnation.

What’s going on with the AEX?

The main problem with the AEX seems to be the resistance at 920 points. The Amsterdam stock exchange index has now been rejected a few times and that seems to be a point where many bears are pressing the sell button.

We must not forget that it has been an excellent year for the AEX so far. Bottom line, there is still a return of more than 13% for the largest stock market index in the country.

This means that the AEX is considerably behind the returns of the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, but 2024 can still be called a better than average year.

Unfortunately, the bullish momentum of the first months of 2024 is somewhat lacking, but that could also be due to the circumstances. There are a few very important weeks coming up for the financial markets.

Important weeks coming up

Next week it will be time for a new American jobs report and the following week the American central bank will meet for a new interest rate decision, and to top it all off we will of course have the elections in the United States.

In that respect, the AEX may be in for a few very volatile weeks. In any case, it is important for next week that the American labor market shows that the economy is doing well.

This means that we will have low unemployment, that the number of open vacancies will remain high and that wage growth can continue to support consumption.

If that is the case, we can confidently approach the week in which not only the US central bank makes an interest rate decision, but we also know more about the future of the United States.
