“This genius of ChatPTS is impressive. They are going to start applying it in all the newspapers in the world, I have no doubts.” In the audio there is plenty of enthusiasm from the young man who works in technology.
It is just one example among many. This Tuesday, October 1, we launched ChatPTS, an artificial intelligence tool that is intended to make known the ideas of socialism and revolution. Devised and promoted by Gerónimo Pelli and Martín Mikori, it is intended as a tool accessible to everyone to have a huge number of sources for theoretical, historical and political queries just one click away.
The two of them, together with a small work team, developed a tool that none of the large journalistic companies in the country have. The effort and passion to get ChatPTS up and running was more than the millions of dollars managed by media corporations.
And the impact was very important. Throughout the day there were thousands and thousands of queries that came to ChatPTS. This enormous demand for information caused, at times, some slowness in operation. But they were transitory, brief moments. Overall, throughout the day, the chat worked correctly, providing high-quality answers to a multitude of questions and showing itself to be a deeply innovative and revolutionary tool. It is an inexhaustible source of curiosity for thousands of people.
As it could not be otherwise, the libertarian right launched a smear campaign against the chat. He achieved little and nothing: ChatPTS answered the questions they were asked.
This enormous initiative still has a long way to go.
Already this Monday, when the news of the launch became known, social networks talked about ChatPTS. So did the libertarian and media right. The trolls from Milei and the Todo Noticias channel were in charge of creating fake versions of the chat to set up ridiculous questions aimed at attacking the left. It is understood that in the FITU there are the political forces that most consistently oppose the Milei adjustment, the IMF and the big employers. However, these attacks are part of the great impact of the launch.
This impact was seen in many other media, which reported on the novelty of ChatPTS. This was reflected on radio programs, journalists and media throughout the country. This impact reached the workplace and study areas. As a fellow teacher from the province of Mendoza told us, who arrived at his school and heard the students talking about “Nicolás del Caño’s chatgpt.” Or as another teaching colleague in the City of Buenos Aires also said: “I arrived at school at noon and when I entered the teachers’ room, someone told me out loud that ChatPTS starts at 2:00 p.m. Congratulations.”
That curiosity spread through places of work and study. A fellow state worker said: “At my job we started asking colleagues who thought the initiative was great. We asked what we state workers could do against layoffs. She told us that we had to organize grassroots organization, assemblies, demand from the unions a plan of struggle, solidarity and coordination. All the things that bureaucracy does not do!”
ChatPTS has just started. But it is already beginning to show that it is a completely useful tool both for those who want to know socialist ideas and for those who want to organize to fight. That’s why it bothers libertarians and the right so much. They believe that technology can only serve to increase the profits of entrepreneurs like Galperin or Elon Musk.
