WTF: February 2012 Archives

275x250.jpg When organisations put the naming of something to a public vote on the internet, they must know it's not going to get the sort of name they would have liked.

And as if to prove our point, a bridge in Slovakia is looking like it could be named after US action film star Chuck Norris.

Officials had asked members of the public to offer suggestions of names for the bridge -- which crosses the Morova river into Austria -- and vote on which they liked most.

But while they were probably hoping for a inspirational name, the current leader, with a massive 75% of the vote, is Chuck Norris Bridge. Ask and the internet shall give.

While bosses have given themselves a get out clause, by saying the final decision will be made by the regional assembly, they probably should upset Chuck Norris.

275x250.jpg Police in Norway were shocked to see a motorist driving with three reindeer sitting on the back seat of his car… and that was before they stopped him and found two more in the boot.

The driver is said to have been moving the animals around 60 miles from Karasjok to Børselv and claimed to have clearance from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority to transport them.

A spokesperson from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is reported to have said:  "There are no limits to what people will get up to in traffic. I've stopped being surprised,"

And before you ask, no, none of the reindeer were wearing seatbelts.

275x250.jpg A street cleaner from Essex has struck gold after discovering a 18-carat gold Rolex worth £21K down a drain… and that was just the start.

Arron Large found the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph in a drain near Chalkwell railway station in Southend, last week.

Police told him that because the watch was not registered as stolen or lost, it would become his if not claimed within 30 days, and he couldn't believe his luck.

That was until yesterday, when the 28-year-old drain technician said he has found three more watches near to where he found the first… now he really can't believe his luck.

Arron says he thinks another of his latest finds is also a Rolex.

275x250.jpg Every bride knows she needs something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue at her wedding… but what about something explosive?

Food artists Bompas & Parr are launching a food explosion service for weddings where for a fee a trained explosives technician will lay charges within your wedding cake ready for you to detonate.

A spokesperson for the firm said: "Traditional wedding cakes are a triumph of spectacle over taste. Bompas & Parr’s food explosion service pushes this ethos to its ultimate conclusion.

"The ritual of cutting the cake is significantly enhanced through the explosion, the sense of occasion heightened by the blast and your guests are spared eating flavourless fruitcake."

The service starts from £800 and includes a risk assessment and an explosive technician liaising with your cake provider to tell them how their creation will be destroyed.

Forget swimming with dolphins, after seeing this video all we want to do is surf with dolphins… and after clicking play we think you will agree.

This video is said to show 15-year-old Mitchell Overton wake surfing alongside dolphins at St. Pete Beach, Florida.

Overton can be seen riding the waves as dolphins pop up and jump out of the water next to him. Pretty cool isn't it?

Woolly mammoth caught on video in Siberia

They were thought to have died out 4,000 years ago, but a video has emerged  which some people claim shows a woolly mammoth -- though others insist it's a hoax.

Shot in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Siberia -- reportedly by a government-employed engineer -- the footage shows a beast walking through an icy river.

For years there have been rumours some woolly mammoth had survived in the Siberian wilderness, but there had never been any proof, and if this video is fake there still isn't.

In Japan have an interesting way of practicing what they would do if a dangerous animal escaped… as this video conclusively shows.

Japanese police, paramedics and hundreds of zoo staff have taken part in a training exercise which saw them fending off a life-sized papier mache rhinoceros.

The odd exercise at Tokyo's Ueno Zoological Gardens was designed to see how they would cope with an emergency which resulted in an animal escape.

While many visitors duly rushed away from the faux-rhino, others stuck around and filmed the vision which was staff surrounding it with a net and pretending to tranquilise and capture it.

275x250.jpg Chocolate, oysters and Champagne are all foods typically associated with Valentines Day -- bull testicles… not so much.

But that hasn't stopped a chef from creating a testicle-filled pie which he claims will act as an aphrodisiac this Valentines Day.

The aptly named 'Cock and Bull Pie' from artisan ready meal firm Charlie Bigham’s contains only ingredients selected for their aphrodisiac and arousing qualities.

As such the £7.99 pie -- available exclusively from Ocado -- features ‘Mama Juana’ liquor and Ginseng alongside the bulls’ testicles.

Rich in testosterone, the potent properties of bull’s testicles have long been used in India where lovers swear by their power to increase sexual vigour. But will you have the balls to try it this Valentine’s Day?

275x250.jpg In bizarre 'they do know she's not real don't they?' news, it's been announced that Miss Piggy will be interviewing celebs at the Baftas.

The Muppets star will host a 'Orange BAFTA Red Carpet' show which could see her rubbing shoulders with the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Gary Oldman.

Describing the show organisers said Miss Piggy would be "conducting interviews and analysis with the leading lights of the movie industry."

Speaking of the role Miss Piggy said: “Imagine the likes of Clooney, Dujardin, Fassbender, Oldman and Pitt achieving the very pinnacle of their careers by getting a chance to speak with the one and only moi—Miss Piggy!

"Naturally, I will be asking questions that only moi would dare to ask.

275x250.jpg We've all been there, you need to go to the loo, but it's so cold you physically can't. Well the Manneken-Pis -- the iconic statue of a urinating boy in Brussels -- knows your pain.

Officials in the Belgian city say they've been forced to turn off the peeing tourist attraction because it's currently too cold for him to continue urinating.

As sub-zero temperatures hit Brussels, bosses were apparently worried that freezing water could damage his internal mechanism and as such turned off the flow of water.

A spokesperson for the Brussels tourist office said that when the weather picks up he will once again piss for Belgium.
