The woman decided to take the man to court and claim her mahr after 10 years of marriage because he was so tight.

Under Iranian law a mahr is offered at time of marriage, can be claimed by the woman at any time during married life or even divorce proceedings.

Owner Steve Mallie is still waiting to discover whether he has clinched a Guinness World Record, for the largest hamburger commercially available.

Wooden car faster than a Porsche

Despite being made from maple, plywood and MDF the two-seater Splinter has a top speed of 240mph and weighs just 1,134kg.

Joe Harmon, 27, from North Carolina, who is head of the project, says: "Wood is a truly amazing material to work with, this car is designed to push boundaries and prove the potential of wood as a material."


Can a pop bottle rocket get into orbit?

A inventor wants to launch a simple but highly engineered pop bottle rocket into orbit.

Boffin Ken Schellenberg from Canada says it might be possible to get a two-litre pop bottle up the required hight.

He has already propelled a Kevlar-reinforced, single-stage missile pressurized with compressed nitrogen 379 metres skyward.

Pricasso - guess what he paints with

Tim Patch - or 'Pricasso' as he likes to be known - has entered the Archibald Prize, the nation's top award for portraiture, with a self-portrait.

He created the work by dipping his penis in paint and applying it to the canvas, though he used his bum to paint the background.

Feng Shui Grand Master, Dr. Chi-Jean Liu was called in to redesign the Hacienda Heights McDonalds in East Los Angeles in terms of fire, earth,
wood, water and metal.

Though his new design and layout the the store now claims to control how energy is manifested making it a better place to eat your burgers.

Worlds most expensive toy car

The 1:64 size car designed by celebrity jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills  contains 2,700 jewels and weighs nearly 23 carats. The car is cast in 18-karat white gold with the majority of the vehicle detailed with micro pave-set brilliant blue diamonds.

“Collaborating with Mattel on the jeweled Hot Wheels car was a dream project for me,” said Jason Arasheben, president & CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills.


Scuba Car becomes a reality

Swiss company Rinspeed has developed sQuba a concept open-top sports car which can can go over land and travel or below the waves to a depth of 10 metres.

But drivers would need to breathe using a tank of compressed air similar to scuba divers - unlike Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me.

£18,000 bottle of wine fake?

200x175.jpgA wealthy diner who ordered a £18,000 bottle of wine sent it back after if was opened - because he thought it was fake.

The man had ordered the 1961 bottle of posh wine Petrus at swish restaurant Zafferano in London, but when it came he noticed the cork was not stamped a date as is the norm for products of the Bordeaux chateau.

After he returned the wine - which he said also tasted off - he shelled out an additional £2,000 on a 1945 Mouton Rothschild costing a cool £20,000.

Car thieves return cars

200x175.jpgPolice are investigating a spate of bizarre car crime, where vehicles have been stolen - but then returned - before the owners noticed they were missing.

More than eight cars have been taken from Jedburgh in Scotland, but all have been returned, and the crimes only came to light because keys had been put back in the wrong place or the car had been parked differently.  

Police suspect that the figure could be much higher. Detective Constable John Brownlee said: "We are convinced that the cars are being driven over a reasonable distance during the night and we are concerned by the frequency of these thefts.

Alison Bartlett, 51 has learnt to use her keen sense of hearing to pick up the sound of a bird flapping its wings or identify an animal rustling in a tree.

She has had an interest in photography since she was 12 and continued to take pictures despite starting to loose her sight in 1997.

Bridesmaids to sign 'weight contracts'

Bridesmaids could soon be forced to sign contracts agreeing not to put on weight or get pregnant before their friends' big day.

20 percent of brides-to-be are so concerned that their special day goes as planned they would consider asking their bridesmaids to sign 'pre-nuptial' style contracts - a poll has revealed.

According to the survey of 1,000 women, commissioned by You & Your Wedding magazine brides would also like to use a contract to stop their maid-of-honour from changing her hairstyle, drinking too much, or making advances towards "inappropriate male guests."


British spies can't Facebook

An Intelligence and Security report has revealed that GCHQ - the UKs electronic spying and code-breaking agency - are struggling to use the new sites and systems to gather information.

For decades they have been able to tap phone lines, but now they warn this is not so easy with more people, including terrorists, using websites and the internet to keep in contact.

Stupid emergency service calls

The 999 examples have been released by South Wales Police who will changing their 999 greeting from “South Wales Police, how can I help?”, to “South Wales Police, what is your emergency?”

BIC biro artist

200x175.jpgAt first glance this looks like a photograph of a night out, but the image has actually been drawn with BIC ballpoint pens.

The stunning pictures, which can measure three metres high, are painstakingly drawn by Spanish artist Juan Franciso Casas based on photographs he has taken.

31-year-old Casas says he can use four of the humble 14p blue BIC biros to create each of his two metre tall drawings - but always uses blue.

Near miss for Earth

200x175.jpgAn asteroid up-to 2,000 feet across has passed close to the Earth - as you may have noticed, it didn't hit.

The object '2007 TU24' whizzed past just 1.4 times the distance from the Earth to the moon.

A collision of a similar sized object happens on average once every 37,000 years and would have a major impact on the human population.

TU24 was spotted in October by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona.

Commercial spaceship unveiled

Starting in 2010 the ship will take eight people (two pilot astronauts and six ticketed passengers) on two-and-a-half hour sub-orbital trips.

Despite each seat costing £100,000 Virgin Galactic say 200 people have already booked with another 85,000 having registered interest.

'Baby Loves Disco' is a nightclub event with a difference, despite being held in 'serious' venues and having a fully stocked bar, it is aimed at the under sevens. 

The events were first held on the east-coast of America but are now planned at nighclubs across the UK.

Blind seal on show at zoo

(Quirky News) Visitors to Los Angeles Zoo can now see the latest attraction - but he can't see them.

Alfred, a harbour seal, was rescued off the coast of New Jersey in March 2007. He was blind, underweight and unable to capture fish to eat.

In October, when it was decided he was non-releasable, he was taken to the zoo where he has spent four months in quarantine and getting used to his new surroundings.

Winter from Houston, USA, claims he has already visited 7,726 of the coffee giants 8,505 stores - a staggering 92.4% of them.

His journey has already seen him visit stores in England, Japan, Spain and Hong Kong as well as 7,269 across America.

German Polar Bear becomes internet star

The Polar Bear cub who shot to fame after being taken from its mother amid concerns she could harm the youngster has become an internet star.

The city of Nuremburg, Germany, which owns the zoo, have had over 1.5 million visitors on a website they setup for the bear.

Thy have also been bombarded with over 25,000 emails and postcards with proposed names for the five-week-old ball of fluff.

Police officers in the UK have been blasted by bosses after posting sick images of their crashed police cars on Facebook.

The group 'Yes I Have Had A Polcol' has over 300 members and features dozens of images - some with officers posing up next to the accidents.

Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said it was “totally unacceptable” for officers to post pictures bragging about hitting pedestrians and damaging police cars and vans.

Rome invaded by 500,000 balls

A protester brought Rome to a standstill in a bizarre fashion, by releasing 500,000 multi-coloured plastic balls down the Spanish Steps.

Graziano Cecchini, who has previously poured red dye into the Trevi Fountain has he pulled the stunt to raise the profile of Burma and the Karen people.

The balls which bounced down the steps like the recent Sony HD adverts and while some were collected by passers-by it took officials hours to clean up the rest.



How do you boil an egg?

Only half of young adults in Britain know how to boil an egg, a survey has revealed.


Just 51% of 18-24-year-olds knew it took three minutes to soft boil an egg, one in 20 though it would take 10 minutes and 15 % had no idea at all.


The poll for Farmhouse Breakfast Week surveyed 1,950 people with 65% getting the time right.


The British Egg Information Service says eggs should be put in cold water which is then brought to boil and left for three minutes to get a really soft boiled yolk and set egg white.

A new intelligent shopping trolley which tells you what you should be buying and navigates you around the supermarket so that you can find it, has been launched.

The MediaCart, which was designed with Microsoft, monitors your shopping habits before suggesting items, recipes and providing you with money off vouchers.

It will even act like a Sat-Nav telling you where to go in the store to find the items you are trying to buy.

Australians pick word of 2007

Tanorexia (obsessed with tanned skin) and Chindia (Chine and India) are just two of the words Australians are currently voting for as their favorite words of 2007.

The online vote organized by the Macquarie Dictionary contains 85 new words which reflect global developments and trends.

Other words include 'salad dodger' an overweight person, 'Manscaping' male grooming and 'Man-flu' a mild cold whose symptoms are exaggerated by the sufferer.

Odd objects found in desks

(Odd News) A stuffed fox, a voodoo doll and fermenting wine are some of the weird items found in the drawers of UK office workers.

Relocation company Space Solutions say they have found such odd items when helping people move between offices they have produced a Top 10 list which also includes a racing car and a grand piano.

Space Solutions business manager, Lee Brandie, said: "It never ceases to amaze me the bizarre range of items which are stored in offices around the country."
