London 2012: Gymnast performs at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5

275x250.jpg Five times British rhythmic gymnastics champion Frankie Jones recently performed at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, confusing travelers.

Jones performed as a sculpture was unveiled there in her honour and to celebrate gymnastics at the official Host Airport of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The 21-year-old, who earned a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2010, is hotly tipped for London 2012 and has spent the week competing in her test event.

The three metre high carbon fibre resin sculpture by artist Eleanor Cardozo has taken centre stage in Terminal 5 Departures.
275x250.jpg It includes a plaque stating: "This sculpture is dedicated to Francesca Jones, whose youth and talent embodies the Olympic spirit and the promise of a generation."

Cardozo said: "This sculpture is dedicated to Francesca Jones, whose youth and talent embodies the Olympic spirit and the promise of a generation."

Frankie Jones added: "Rhythmic gymnastics combines the beauty of ballet with the discipline of gymnastics and is rapidly growing in popularity in the UK and around the world.  

"The exhibition is a huge honour and will allow us to further raise the profile of this Olympic sport to an international audience and perhaps even inspire the rhythm gymnasts of future Olympic Games."
