Life-sized Stormtrooper cake is Star Wars-tastic… and delicious

275x250.jpg At Sci-Fi conventions there are always plenty of Stormtroopers, but they're usually just geeks in costumes… this one is a life-sized Stormtrooper cake.

Amanda Oakleaf says when she heard about the Arisia Sci-Fi convention in Boston, one thing which sprung to mind -- creating a edible life-sized soldier of the Empire. Obviously.

So with her husband Tiler and a team of ten cake artists, Amanda set about making the highly impressive 6-foot, 4-inch, 300-pound Star Wars inspired cake.

While a metal frame serves as the skeleton (and it has sculpted Rice Kripsy legs) the cake used some 208 eggs, 140lbs of sugar and 55lbs of marshmallows.

600 hungry convention-goers enjoyed tucking into the cake and each slice had three layers of cake and two layers of italian meringue buttercream… Mmm Stormtrooper.
275x250.jpg Speaking to NewsLite, Amanda said: "We've been wanting to do a humanoid type cake for a very long time, but we just never could find the right venue.

"When we heard about the Arisia Sci-Fi convention in Boston we knew that there would be plenty of hungry fans there to appreciate and consume our cake.

"The design and building process took our staff of ten about two weeks to do.  However, to make sure that the cake was fresh and delicious we didn't actually start stacking or sculpting the cake until two days before the event.

"It would have been much easier for us to create the cake had we not been so insistent that the cake taste every bit as delicious as all of our wedding cakes and everything else that we create.

"Each slice had three layers of cake and two layers of our italian meringue buttercream, just like our high-scale wedding cakes."

While the Stormtrooper cake was donated to Arisia Sci-Fi convention, Amanda says it would have cost $9,000 to buy.
