Odd festive names given to Christmas babies

275x250.jpgSanta, Sparkle and Rudolph have been revealed as just some of the bizarre festive names given to babies born around Christmas.

Researchers looking at the names given to millions of children found that since the year 2000, festive names have been given to some 73,495 babies.

The most popular was Joseph, given to 28,223 British children, followed by Holly, with 21,312 kids being given the moniker and then Faith with 5,183.

Less common, but more altogether more odd, are the five children called Sparkle and Santa, the three Rudolphs and the three called Claus.

We can only imagine what will happen when, at the age of seven, little Santa gets told by all the other children in his class he doesn't really exist.

A spokeswoman for Bounty.com, which compiled the list from its database of registered baby names, said: "Our records have uncovered that the Christmas period influences parent's choices when naming babies born at this time - and what better time of year to take inspiration from than the season of goodwill?

"Yet, with children already named Sparkle and Santa amongst us, it may not be long until we bump into an 'Elf' or 'Tinsel' at the local supermarket!"
