Divorce cakes to celebrate end of marriages

275x250.jpgThey are normally cut to celebrate the start of a marriage, but a baker is having success by selling a range of tiered 'divorce cakes'.

Rather than being topped by a miniature bride and groom standing happily together the cakes show the unhappy couples pushing each other over, stabbing each other or even shooting one another.

Fay Millar of Pink Rose Cakes in Brighton said she started baking the divorce cakes after hearing about their popularity in the US, where people often hold divorce parties.

She now hopes the trend will be picked up in the UK where she charges £60 to £800 for the cakes - topped with warring couples made out of icing.

Luckily the cakes have never been mixed up. You try explaining why there is a divorce cake at a wedding reception.

"It has become popular over there and I know people are starting to have divorce parties.

"I have a few friends and family who have been through divorce and many of them have talked about marking the end of a bad relationship."
