Modern Warfare 2 gets Hollywood-style launch
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, the most anticipated computer game of the year, has received a Hollywood movie-style launch bringing part of London to a standstill. As fans queued for stores which were opening at midnight, trucks filled with actors dressed as military characters from the game passed by.
There was also a VIP party at Vue Cinema in Leicester Square attended by movie and TV stars and hosted was by Vernon Kay (never mind).
Modern Warfare 2 is expected to become the biggest-selling game of all time and the last game in the Call of Duty series sold over 13 million copies.
Experts predict more than 1,000,000 copies of the latest game will sell within the next week -- meaning any girlfriends should probably buy themselves a bottle of wine and a Friends box-set to keep themselves entertained.
The first gamer to officially purchase a copy was Chris Cullen (pictured centre above) who queued for more than 24 hours outside the HMV Trocadero store in London's Piccadilly Circus. Surrey-based Chris, who is a self-confessed Call of Duty fanatic is known to other gamers as 'The Politician 1'. He started the queue on early Sunday evening and arrived dressed from head to toe in full military gear, including a face-mask to protect his identity.
HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said: "Modern Warfare 2 raises the bar for all games, not only for the astonishing demand we are seeing from gamers all around the country, but for its technical brilliance also.
"With more than a million unit sales likely in its first week alone, HMV confidently predicts it will go on to become the biggest-selling title ever in games history."
