Publisher looks for rare or lost local words
Dictionary publisher Collins has started a nationwide search for rare dialect words which may have slipped out of common usage. They are on the hunt for words like Puckaterry, which means muddle in the Norfolk dialect, or Poke, which can be used for ice cream.
Words that are found to still be in existence will then be added to Collins Corpus - a database of 4.4 billion English words.
People are being asked to send a message on Twitter (@localwords) to explain the meaning of the odd local and old words they regularly use.
Anyway tarra a bit, we're off for a bostin ommuck with me old mucker, even if he is a bit of a barmcake. Let us know your local words in the comments.
