Pet Airways: First pet-only airline launches
A pet-only airline has launched offering pampered pooches the chance to travel in style.Pet Airways, which has been four years in the making, is the brainchild of Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel, who couldn't stand checking their Jack Russell terrier Zoe in as cargo.
The pair have now bought five converted planes which can each carry about 50 cats and dogs in the main cabin, during each flight the animals are looked after by flight attendants and given bathroom breaks.
Upon being checked in for their flight paws-engers are given access to a special lounge and even taken on pre-boarding walks ... I wonder if I could fly with them if I wore a dog costume, it sounds better than going with Ryanair.
The airline is already flying between New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles with bosses saying they are seeing a greater demand than they expected for the $200 to $300 flights.A spokesperson for Pet Airways said: "Currently, most pets traveling by air in the U.S. are transported in the cargo hold and are handled as baggage. The experience is not only frightening to the pets.
"Pets are like family members and they deserve better. Pet Airways flies its pet passengers in the main cabin of the airplane with a trained pet attendant for the entire duration of the flight.
"Unlike cargo holds found in commercial airplanes, Pet Airways' cabins are climate-controlled and have the proper level of fresh air circulation that pets require during travel."
For those still wondering, the flight attendents and pilots are still humans.
