6mm TV becomes world's thinnest LCD
The world's thinnest LCD television was today revealed by LG ... measuring just 5.9mm thick.Coming in 42 and 47 inch models the TV uses a proprietary LGS (Light Guide Sheet) technology to keep so slender and at just 6.1kg is about 50% lighter than competitors.
Korean manufacturer LG say the new TV makes the previous thinnest - a 7mm JVC model - look fat by comparison.
The even had a model hold a coin next to the TV to prove its thinness ... they do know coins aren't a universal measurement of size don't they?
Other technology LG say is special about the TV (but we don't understand) includes an edge-lit LED (light emitting diode) backlight system and 120Hz technology with a motion picture response time (MPRT) of 8ms.
Chung In-Jae of LG said: "The development of the world’s slimmest LCD TV panel demonstrates our leading edge-lit LED backlight technology that enables thinner designs in addition to our direct-lit type LED backlight assembly which delivers superior picture quality."
