Council to spray dog poo pink

A council is to start spray painting dog mess pink in a bid to shame owners into picking up their pooch's poo.

Volunteers will patrol the Mansfield nature reserve and use a tree dye to spray any unwanted mess bright pink.

Mansfield District Council hope the move will enourage more dog owners to us bins placed around the Oak Tree Heath Local Nature Reserve.

The idea came from John Wood, Sherwood Forest Community ranger who says the dye used is environmentally friendly and biodegrades over time.

Councillor Eddie Smith, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council commented: "Although dog owners face a £50 fine for not picking up their animal's waste; as a District Council we would much rather the environment was kept clear in the first place."

I think the primary problem with dog walkers is that of convenience. If they don't have bags readily available they don't bother picking up the poop.

What they need is a product that makes it more convenient to pick it up.
