Terminally ill man wins life bet

200x190.jpgA cancer sufferer has won a £5,000 bet that he would stay alive.

Jon Matthews from Milton Keynes was told by doctors "don't make any plans for Christmas" eight months ago.

But rather than accept his fate Jon placed a bet £100 he would survive ... and won.

Bookies William Hill checked the facts with Harefield Hospital in Middlesex before offering the 58-year-old odds of 50/1.

William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "Never, in thirty years in the business, have I been so pleased to pay a winning client £5,000.
"We had never been asked to accept a bet of this nature before.

"But as Jon approached us directly and was adamant that it would give him an additional incentive to battle his illness, we offered him the bet he wanted."
