Kirsty Wark's dressing down over short skirt
The BBC have received a number of complaints after Kirsty Wark wore a short dress to present Newsnight Review.Hosting the show from Cannes the 53-year-old wore a black dress which ended several inches above her knee, nothing wrong so far you might think.
But viewers (and presumably Daily Mail readers) have been sending messages of complaint to the corporation that the mother-of-two was wearing a dress "much too short for a lady of her age."
Another irate poster on the BBC Newsnight blog added: "Could someone not have told Ms Wark that it would not be advisable presenting this show naked from the waist down?"

Oh if only that were the case!
How ridiculous. Kirsty Wark is a very attractive woman, who also happen to be a very good TV journalist and presenter.
TV is a visual medium, and I quite like my news presented attractively in every sense. (Fiona Bruce is another who, for me, can do no wrong.)
Kirsty is a real professional, and on this occasion was dressed quite appropriately to discuss films by the waterside on a warm evening in Cannes. She, as much as anyone, would never dream of dressing in this way to report or discuss current affairs, war or tragedy. Give the woman some credit. She knows what she's doing.
And as for those loaded comments regarding her age and children, shame! This is totally irrelevent - and the sort of innuendo that should have faded since the sixties. She carries it off. Nothing else matters - and certainly not the curtain-twitching, gossiping prurience of the miserable people who want to critisise a very cool and able woman.
Trust the Daily Mail! (No don't!). THIS IS NOT A STORY! It's just muck-raking gutter-scraping to titillate the small and mean-minded, spiritually-wanting of little Britain.
Kirsty should totally rock on, as brilliantly as she always has done, in whatever she chooses to wear - or not. And I think we can leave that judgement to her, don't you? She's a big girl now. I think her critics are petty-minded pygmies by comparison and should grow up or shut up!
