Stonehenge attacked for souvenirs
Vandals have taken a hammer and chisel to the 5,000-year-old Stonehenge in a bid to get cheap souvenirs.Security guards spotted two men using a hammer and screwdriver to take a small chip the size of a 10p piece from the side of the Heel Stone.
Police are currently trying the identify the men who ran off and have appealed for anyone who might have been taking photographs at the time to come forwards.
Bizarrely souvenir hunting was once a legitimate practice at the ancient monument and chisels used to be handed out to people visiting the stones.
However police are now warning off other would-be souvenir hunters saying: "Damaging an ancient monument is a serious offence and we take this type of damage extremely seriously."
